Albergo Terme La Reginella ****
The Hotel Thermae La Reginella boasts : a large garden , where flowers and subtropical flowers bloom; a thermal spa , made up of 5 outdoor swimming pools and 1 indoor thermal pool; one indoor restaurant and one that hosts guests outdoors amongst the greenery and pergola; Neapolitan tiles that embellish the already sophisticated and refined decoration; a health farm that combines the wholesomeness of the thermae with modern discoveries for aesthetics and relaxation; a tennis court; and much more. In addition, Lacco Ameno has been a popular destination since the 1950s and this hotel is one of the most famous accommodation structures on Ischia thanks to the attention given to detail, the guests and the quality of the services, facilities, cuisine and well-being proposals.
The first people to discover and make use of the benefits of Ischia’s thermal water were the Ancient Greeks, followed by the Romans, and that is why this volcanic island has some many remains and pieces of evidence from these ancient civilisations; it has been considered a small paradise of relaxation and health thanks to its sources of hot water, caves and lush vegetation.
Almost ignored until the Middle Ages, the waters of Ischia were rediscovered in 1660 and, today, the thermae are affiliated with the Italian national health system thanks to the recognition of their curative and preventive properties.
The health farm at La Reginella, which includes a thermal spa, makes use of the strengths of these waters by combining them with human ingenuity. There are 5 outdoor swimming pools in the park, four of which are filled with thermal water and one with sea water, and there is also a heated, indoor swimming pool with hydromassages and a natural sauna with thermal steam within the spa. What is more, the treatments carried out do not only make use of the water here, but also the mud, which is rich in active thermal water substances.
As far as the rest of the proposals are concerned, which can satisfy any aesthetic, wellness and relaxation request, the possibilities range from massages to face and body treatments and even fitness programmes which involve toning and stretching exercise courses.
The hotel offers single, double, comfort and superior rooms and suites , and the decor of each room is detailed, elegant, embellished with characteristic local tiles, equipped with a television and other mod-cons and decorated with the eternalised views in the paintings that adorn the walls.
When the weather is not perfect guests can dine in a large dining room , however when the sun is shining on the island, there is a restaurant in the hotel’s garden with a pergola. The restaurant is impressive just because of the location alone, but the ingredients used, culinary traditions and attention given to taste and health make it even more so. The restaurant serves up one of the most tasty, flavoursome and cheerful cuisines in Italy, the Neapolitan cuisine, and the kitchen benefits from a rich choice of primary ingredients, fresh fish from the area and an abundance of fruit and vegetables. What is more, in order to maintain the wholesomeness of the foods used, the menu is centred around seasonal products, and the superb local patisserie is an added bonus.
Some of the hotel’s services and facilities:
Ischia is not just about spas; it also offers seaside, archaeological and general cultural tourism. The archaeological and historic repertory is very rich (interesting finds are preserved and can be admired in the Archaeological Museum of Villa Arbusto in Lacco Ameno, where La Reginella is located), but the island’s main attraction is the Aragonese Castle, which lies in the centre of a fortified citadel on an island opposite the town of Ischia Porto, which it is connected to via a bridge. This castle was used for many years as a refuge for the population when they underwent frequent attacks from corsairs.
Ischia, which is the biggest island in the Gulf of Naples, is part of the Phlegraean island group, together with Procida and Vivara , and it is connected to the capital city of the Campania region via an efficient ferry service, as well as to other places, particularly in the summer months, like Capri and Procida.
If there is enough time, a trip to the Amalfi Coast is definitely worthwhile. The coastline is approximately 50km long, running from Vietri to Positano , passing through towns like Cetara , Ravello and Amalfi , and it is, by and large, one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world. Not far from Naples is Vesuvius National and here you can climb up to the summit of the volcano and admire a landscape consisting of the Gulf of Gaeta , the Sorrentine peninsula and Capri , as well as the immense crater. The archaeological sites Paestum and Pompei are also easy to reach from the capital city of Campania.
