Antico Casale di Montegualandro & SPA
Antico Casale di Montegualdrano was a royal residence in the 1700s and it lies in one of the historically and culturally richest places on the Italian peninsula. This country house truly makes you think of eras gone by thanks to its structure, which has not been modernised at all, frescoes , flooring , materials and carefully selected furnishings, and its location is also perfect for getting to artistic and architectural gems like Cortona, Arezzo, Perugia and Siena.
What is more, this old farmhouse is perfect for nature lovers because it is immersed in the surrounding greenery , in a park that spans over hundreds of square metres and faces lake Trasimeno, and it boasts Ecolabel certification thanks to the respect it has for the environment.
The property has 15 suites, it can host congresses and any type of event, it has a swimming pool, a barbeque area, a traditional, antique restaurant with historical rooms and an open space covering 200m², and guests’ wellness is taken care of with a spa here.
Just like everything else in this property, from the farmhouse to the restaurant, the spa is also housed in an antique building, or, more precisely, in the antique blacksmith workshop of the Conti Ranieri di Sorbello, which spans over 300m². The splendid oak beams and original fittings have also been respected here, even though the interior design chosen is minimalist zen so as to make the guests feel calm and in harmony with the surroundings.
Some of the facilities include a heated indoor swimming pool, waterfalls for cervical massages, swimming machines, Turkish bath, sauna, Scottish shower, gym, Jacuzzi, a low-pressure, ventilated solar shower and chromotherapy and aromatherapy room.
Treatments range from massages, which are inspired by both Western and Eastern traditions, to aesthetic treatments, and, what is more, guests can buy natural oil and wine based products and these are available thanks to the area’s philosophy which does not only concern food but also wellness treatments and facilities.
Thanks to restorations of the antique farmhouse which left the materials the property is made out of untouched, guests can admire the frescoes on the walls and ceilings and the oak beams in each suite and walk on the original stone or Tuscan tile floors from the 1700s. History can be experienced in all of the fifteen suites, which are at least 50m² in size and which are inspired by minimalism zen combined with linen and bed canopies.
Each suite is furnished and has a kitchen area just in case guests choose to cook for themselves instead of going to the farmhouse’s restaurant, as well as a LCD television and hydro massage shower. All products provided are also environmentally friendly, as per the Ecolabel certification.
In 1700, the farmhouse was known as Antica Osteria della Spelonca and, more than three centuries after, the hospitality and welcoming traditions here, especially regarding food and catering, are still exactly the same: the ability to combine the extraordinary traditional cuisine of the area, which guarantees taste and authentic ingredients, with elegant service is one of the restaurant’s strong points, which, in the middle of the 18th century, took its name from Ristorante Antica Posta per Cortona 1745. In fact, the name itself, which is translated into English as ‘Ancient Place Restaurant for Cortona 1745’, came about from the fact that Cortona is only a short distance away from the farmhouse, and the antique charm of the era is not only found in the name of the hotel thanks to the rooms, antique saloon, vaulted ceilings and stone flooring.
The menu consists of regional dishes and characteristic products from the area, like Chianina meat, Montegualandro oil, truffles, cured meats from Umbrian ‘norcinerie’, European perch and Fagiolina del Trasimeno, and is prepared according to the Slow Food philosophy. The restaurant also has a 200m² gazebo which can be used during the warmer months for banquets and receptions and, on request, vegetarian and gluten-free menus are available.
Some of the services and facilities:
Antico Casale di Montegualandro is located in one of the most important nature destinations in Italy, Lake Trasimeno, which is a zone that is rich in fish, birds and fauna and flora that is characteristic of the Mediterranean. There are three islands on the lake and, if you only have time to visit one, Isola Maggiore should be your choice (it can be reached by ferry, just like the other two). The most important towns facing the lake are Castiglion del Lago and Passignano, both of which are very historically and artistically interesting and they are both home to many tourist resorts during the warmer seasons.
Very close to the lake is Città della Pieve, which is an example of Medieval urban architecture and which boasts artistic and cultural attractions such as the Duomo, Chiesa di S. Francesco and the church hall of Santa Maria dei Bianchi.
The great cities of art Arezzo, Perugia and Siena are also easy to reach from here.
