Bagni di Pisa *****
Gustav of Sweden, George IV of England, Vittorio Alfieri, Percy B. and Mary Shelley, Ibrahim Pascià, the Cardinal of York and Carlo Goldini are just some of the famous people who have stayed at Bagni di Pisa, in this hotel which, in the 1700s, saw the Grand Duke of Tuscany Franceso Stefano di Lorena, spend his summer holidays here in search of well-being thanks to the therapeutic properties of this town’s water.
Even now, after more than three centuries have passed, guests of Bagni di Pisa can still nourish their well-being here, making use of all the latest instruments that help guests find and maintain their personal well-being. Bagni di Pisa Palace & Spa sits in the Parco degli Ulivi and it truly reflects the sophistication of Tuscan art and culture with marble, graniglia and terracotta floors.
There is also a wonderful restaurant that serves up healthy and low calorie dishes and it is the finishing touch at this resort where various types of events can be held thanks to the flexibility of its rooms, which range from the Plenary room, which is built into the antique Grand Duke Theatre and which features Carrara marble floors and can hold up to 120 guests, and the majestic party room, which today is called the Shelley room and which is decorated with original frescoes from the 1700s, to the smaller Byron room and games room .
Most treatments experienced at the Spa in Bagni di Pisa are produced with local, thermal water - in particular with sulphates, calcium and magnesium - which springs at a temperature of 38°C. From the external thermal pool, guests can access the Bagni di Levante which includes a large, central bath dedicated to a Salus per Acquam programme. This faces onto Bagno di Mercurio, with its 18% saline water composition and Bagno di Minerva, filled with sweet water at a warm 35°C. In the Bagno di Ponente, another thermal pool and an 'oriental' area is dedicated to treatments inspired by some of the most ancient techniques in Chinese Medicine. Equipped with a Thermal Cave (The Cave of Grand Dukes), the Spa offers classic thermal and non thermal treatments as well as beauty treatments with a series of special offers including: hydro-colon therapy (a detox and purifying treatment for the colon) and a moisterizing alkalizing treatment with a base of thermal-oglio components.
Bagni di Pisa has 61 rooms, made up of 11 Junior suites and 9 suites. The sombre Comfort rooms are situated on the mezzanine floor and they all have a sofa bed for guests who wish to use the room as a triple room. The Superior rooms are also located on the mezzanine floor and they have marble bathrooms, as do the Deluxe rooms on the third floor, and the latter also have a small living corner. The Prestige Junior suite is set out over two levels - the bedroom is slightly raised – and this lets guests admire the wonderful frescoes on the ceiling in all their beauty, which date back to the 1700s, and this is also the case for the Executive Junior suite and the Suite, both of which have a four poster bed and a double sofa bed which can be used for triple or quadruple bookings.
