Borgo San Faustino
Borgo San Faustino is located in the town of the same name in Umbria, immersed in an estate of around 250 hectares that also contains 2 outdoor swimming pools and a Jacuzzi. Just a few kilometres from some of the most renowned cultural, touristic and natural attractions in Umbria, the Relais consists of a series of farmhouses that date back to the 19th Century and that have been carefully restored to respect the Umbrian architecture and finely furnished and decorated with modern comforts and conveniences. The Relais has a restaurant that serves typical local cuisine prepared using ingredients produced on the farm and hosts regular cookery classes that reveal the secrets of local gastronomy. The offer is completed by the Spa, with its large windows that look out onto the spectacular panorama of the Umbrian countryside.
The Relais Borgo San Faustino has a Spa containing a bio sauna, Turkish bath, emotional showers, a hydro-massage bath, an ice room and a tea room. The spa has vast windows that offer uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside, and offers a wide selection of massage and beauty treatments.
The Relais Borgo San Faustino has 3 room types – Stand, Superior and Suites – in a series of historic buildings that have been carefully renovated and preserve the traditional Umbrian architecture. The standard rooms occupy the smaller farmhouses, the Superior rooms are located in a large stone house that dominates the valley, and the Suites are in a studio that overlooks the valley and has a private garden and a kitchen. All rooms and suites have air conditioning, satellite TV and a fridge bar.
The Restaurant at the Borgo San Faustino serves dishes prepared according to the ancient recipes from the countryside around Orvieto using ingredients produced on the farm below the Relais. The fresh produce can also be tasted in the atmospheric Etruscan Grotto located in the estate, while in the grounds the restaurant often organises barbeques, cooking up the finest cuts of meat from the local Chianina cattle. The Relais also organises cookery classes during which the chef introduces participants to the flavours and culinary art of Umbria.
Some of the hotel services:
The town of San Faustino is a short distance from Orvieto, where you can’t miss the chance to visit its cathedral, one of the most important examples of Italian gothic architecture that took decades to construct, spanning the XIII and XVI centuries. Other attractions in the surrounding area include Todi, where you can admire the masterpieces of architecture such as the Cathedral, the Palazzo dei Priori, Palazzo del Popolo and the Palazzo del Capitano, which all stand around the beautiful Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. Then there’s Spoleto, where you can see the Romanesque architecture, the ruins of the Roman theatre, the Civic Museum, the splendid Rocca fortress and the Ponte delle Torri. The complex of La Scarzuola in Montegiove is a truly unique place to visit, where in the 20th century, the architect Tomaso Buzzi purchased the medieval convent and built his symbolist ‘ideal city’ around it. Other destinations you should definitely visit if you have the chance are the medieval villages dotted around the Umbrian countryside, such as Bevagna, Spello, and Montefalco, and naturally the city of Perugia with its beautiful historic centre and five medival rioni, or wards.
