Castello San Marco Charming Hotel & Spa ****
The history of Castello di San Marco Charming Hotel & Spa dates back to the end of the 17th Century when the Prince of Palagonia, Ignazio Sebastiano Gravina Cruyllas, promised to construct a new residence in the family estate, on the beach of Catalabiano. His son, Ferdinando Francesco Gravina, then added other buildings to the grounds and so did other heirs until the estate became what it is today, which has remained unchanged since 1747.
Not used for years, if only by the local villagers, the castle was then transformed into a luxurious 4 star hotel in 1971 by the Murabito family. On the outside, the castle and its gardens still maintain their original charm from when they were constructed, whilst on the inside you can truly feel the history of the building in its meeting halls, pergolas and the wine bar, all of which are decorated in a Sicilian baroque style. In this natural Mediterranean context, which features the crystal clear waters of the Ionic Sea, the beautiful town of Taormina and Etna, sits Castello di San Marco Charming Hotel & Spa which boasts a private beach and offers guests the possibility to enjoy a truly regenerating holiday thanks to the numerous treatments and packages available at the Aquae Leonis spa. What is more, this hotel has meeting and convention rooms and very rich wine and food menus which are served at the indoor restaurant, the outdoor summer restaurant, the wine bar, the lounge bar on the terrace and the pool side Lunch Grill.
The spa at Castello di San Marco Charming Hotel & Spa is called Aquae Leonis and offers packages and treatments for weight loss, anti-stress, anti-aging and for improving posture, as well as face and body treatments, scrubs, wraps, manicures and pedicures. The collaboration with Terme di Salsomaggiore also means that the spa has a highly beneficial thermae circuit and complimentary and aromatic programmes.

The menu here is further complimented by an extra dish that is changed daily and is cooked using the products that are available that day at the market.
The hotel’s wine cellar is well stocked with many wines from the slopes of Etna and these can be tasted along with many spirits in the castle’s restored winery, which today is an elegant bar called ‘Wine Bar 1892’.
