Cortona Resort & Spa ****
Immersed in an age-old park of more than 30,000 square meters and containing a splendid pool and solarium, the Cortona Resort & Spa is its own idyllic hamlet. This spectacular place lies near the Etruscan village of Cortona and consists of an expertly reconstructed 18th century villa, which contains the reception, the Wellness Centre, the Restaurant and several bedrooms, as well as two other Tuscan style buildings that contain the other bedrooms of the resort. The Wellness Centre of more than 400 square meters contains saunas, emotion showers, salt rooms, spaces for massages and treatments, and a whirlpool with 12 places. The restaurant serves traditional Tuscan cuisine prepared with fresh local ingredients (the vegetables are grow in the resorts garden and pasta and sweets are homemade) and can host events and ceremonies, as can the indoor and outdoor spaces, including the pool. Comfort, relaxation, and wellness: the Cortona Resort & Spa maintains the spirit of old fashioned Tuscan hospitality, and is just a few minutes’ drive from some of the most popular cultural and touristic attractions that Tuscany and Umbria have to offer.

Of Etruscan origin but with a history as a free medieval commune, Cortona is the main cultural and touristic hub of the Val di Chiana in Arezzo, dominated by a Medici Fortress and with its historic centre of narrow streets, churches, typical restaurants and hidden treasures. It is also a strategic base for visiting the famous cities of art of Tuscany and Umbria. Arezzo is just 30 km from Cortona and is home to a fortress, a famous gothic cathedral and much more. Gubbio, 68 km away, is one of the oldest cities in Umbria and the second Franciscan capital after Assisi, which is also about the same distance from Cortona. A little closer, at 50 km, is Perugia with its famous hilltop historic centre, Lake Trasimeno with its 3 islands (just 10 minutes’ drive), Montepulciano (33 km) with its unique buildings and churches and numerous gastronomic events that animate the city all year round, and Pienza (44 km) with its historic centre that has been declared a Unesco world heritage site.
