Grand Hotel Adriatic ****
The Grand Hotel Adriatic is located in Opatija, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Croatia, once a favourite resort for the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy. It is idyllic all year round thanks to the typical Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and the summer heat appeased by the cool breeze that blows off the Ucka mountain. The hotel’s position is striking, overlooking the Kvarner Gulf and near the town centre and seafront promenade. Consisting of two buildings, the Adriatic I and the Adriatic II, which share the reception and facilities, the hotel has its own natural flat rock, a Spa with panoramic views from the 8th floor, with a Turkish bath, Finnish sauna and hydro massage baths, a beauty centre, congress centre with 8 meeting rooms with room for up to 500 delegates and perfect also for concerts or theatrical performances, 2 restaurants with local and international cuisine (there is a third restaurant on the beach, open during the summer) and one of the largest casinos in the region. Special events and shows are regularly organised at the hotel, and are held out in the open during the summer.
The Tantra Spa Centre of the Grand Hotel Adriatic is located on the 8th floor of the hotel and provides a panoramic view over the Kvarner Gulf and its islands. The 600 square meters of the centre contain a heated seawater swimming pool, hydro massage baths, a Finnish sauna, a Turkish bath, a Kneipp bath, refreshing thermal chromotherapeutic showers with refreshing aromatic herbs (cold haze with blue light, tropical rain with orange light, mango scented), a relaxation area and a sun terrace. On the ground floor of the hotel is the Tantra Beauty Centre (550sqm), with 8 spaces for massages and 5 baths for hydro massage; treatments use plant-based products, natural essences and products from the sea, including anti-ageing treatments using collagens and hyaluronic acid. The Spa Centre can be reserved for exclusive use in the evenings.
The rooms of the Grand Hotel Adriatic include Superior accommodation (171 rooms including some Suites) and Standard accommodation (136 rooms). Superior rooms are in the Adriatic I building and Standard rooms in the Adriatic II. All accommodation is equipped with air conditioning, direct phone line, TV, hairdryer, mini-bar and free Wi-Fi internet connection. The Superior rooms also contain a safe deposit box.
The “Nimfa” Bar & Restaurant of the Grand Hotel Adriatic, with à la carte menu, offers a diverse selection of dishes which include a variety of international, coastal and regional Croatian specialities, and also caters for vegetarians and for other dietary requirements. The Adriatic Restaurant offers a buffet dinner and organises themed evenings during the summer months. In the summer, the “Beach Garden” Restaurant is also open on the hotel’s beach.

There are numerous touristic towns near Opatija, that have grown with the development of the area, each of which offers a great place to explore or play sports. A place everyone should see, Mošćenice is a small town that boasts the best views around. Nature lovers will enjoy an excursion to the Risnjak National Park with its ancient evergreen forest, or the Plitvice National Park, which is further to travel but is a UNESCO world heritage site, with 16 lakes of all sizes connected by a series of cascades.
