Rimini, as well as Riccione just along the coast, are two of the most popular seaside resorts in Europe, with a tradition in hospitality that offers perfect organisation and a wide range of recreational, sports and cultural attractions that provide plenty to see and do at any time of the year. A stroll along the seafront is a tradition for visitors to the town, as often is a night out in one of the numerous night clubs and bars that make the destination popular with young people. Moving inland, the area is rich with natural beauty and points of cultural interest. Among them: Coriano, a town surrounded by ancient farms, vineyards and olive groves, a perfect starting point for a walk through the National Park of the Merano River Basin and in the valley of the Rio Melo. Near Gemmano, you can visit the Caves of Onferno, of significant geological interest. The town of Gradara is worth a visit to see the wonderful fortress, the old village of Montecolombo is home to the Church of San Martino, which contains a splendid 18th century tapestry by Brancaleoni, Montegridolfo with the famous Castello Malatestiano built in the 14th century, the Republic of San Marino with its characteristic path that unites the three Towers on top of the mountain, the village of San Clemente with a church designed by the architect Papa Luigi Poletti, and San Leo with the fortress that once imprisoned the Count of Cagliostro. All of the towns and villages regularly host traditional fairs and festivals, especially in the summer, where you can witness costume parades that recreate medieval and renaissance scenes. Further afield you can visit Urbino, the birth city of Rafael, with the cathedral constructed by Federico da Montefeltro, the Duke’s Palace and the National Gallery of the Marche, rich with renaissance art.
