Hotel Miravalle ****
Frederik I, Otto IV, Erik IV, Frederik II, Pope Clement VII and Micheangelo. These were some of the hotel's most prestigious guests from centuries ago. Hotel Miravalle was built in the 10th century as a defense stronghold, after which it became one of the most important historic buildings in San Miniato. Located directly behind the Tower of Frederik II, in which the Emperor's notary, Pier della Vigna was imprisoned (as reported in Dante's Divine Comedy), today the building is remembered as the location in which Pope Clement VII, together with Michelangelo, signed the contract to fresco the Sistine Chapel with the Last Judgement. Paying homage to its long and glorious history, today the hotel hosts over 150 art exhibitions in both the rooms of the hotel as well as in the communal areas. Attentive restructuring has protected the unique atmosphere that the hotel provides, without forgetting the luxuriousness of the services that it offers. The best in Tuscan cuisine can be tasted at the Miravalle Restaurant, with its terrace facing out onto the San Miniato valley, while those in search of wellness will find it in the Beauty and Spa centre inside the hotel; a rich menu of massages, treatments and beauty treatments.
Guests of the hotel can choose from a rich menu of massages and treatments for both the face and the body, some of which can be enjoyed directly in your room (upon reservation). Among these; the muscle massage which works on the connecting tissue, releasing tension, and the Vodder lymph-draining massage. Further massages and treatments are available at a beauty centre a short walk away from the hotel.
Hotel Miravalle provides double rooms (also with single beds), adjoining rooms for up to 4 people and Junior Suites. Each room is equipped, among other services, with: AC, Satellite TV with Sky Channels, minibar, safe, coffee machine, Wi-Fi and a complimentary, natural cosmetics kit with Extra Virgin Olive oil "Toscano IGP".
The Restaurant and food bar "La Terrazza" at Hotel Belvedere, with a splendid view of Valdarno, offers the best in traditional, Tuscan cuisine; prepared with produce from the local territory; under the formula of "temporary restaurant" which forsees a rotation of highly qualified chefs.
There are many medieval villages to be explored beyond San Miniato; all with their own characteristics and places of interest for example: Cigoli, a historic pilgrimage destination, known for its church and convent, built by the Humiliati monks who settled in the village in the 13th century; Corazzano for the old San Giovanni Parish; Ponte a Egola for the Del Sacro Cuore Church and Balconevesi for its ruins which are of architectural interest but the town is also famous for its exquisite white truffle. An unmissable visit, not far from the village, is Pisa- where guests can admire the "Piazza of Miracles" and the famous leaning Tower of Pisa as well as Lucca and its Renaissance-era walls.
