Hotel Du Grand Paradis & SPA La Baita ***
The oldest hotel in the Cogne Valley, the Hotel Du Grand Paradis was constructed in the late 19th century in the centre of the town. Over the years it has undergone numerous restoration works that have preserved the traditional architecture and the Alpine atmosphere that characterises it. What attracts the distinguished Italian and international clientele of today is the Spa, which occupies the fourth and last floor, designed in the style of a mountain chalet, where guests can unwind in the sauna, Turkish bath, tropical and Scottish showers, and the hydro-massage pool, which can be enjoyed in total privacy, as well as the massages and beauty treatments administered in the dedicated areas. The gastronomic offer of the hotel includes breakfast served until late morning, while in a sister hotel just 60 meters away is the à la carte restaurant and a more informal Brasserie. The hotel has private lounges where guests can relax in front of the fire, sip herbal teas, and read books about the mountains. The hotel also provides Wi-Fi access, a deposit for ski equipment, and a private car park.
The Spa of the Hotel du Grand Paradis, located on the fourth and last floor of the historic building, is called La Baita (meaning a typical mountain shelter), and has been created in the style of an old mountain retreat, with decor and furnishings made of wood and materials provided by the real shelters in the surrounding mountains. Open in the afternoons to all guests, in the other hours the spa can be reserved for the private use of all the facilities, which include a sauna, a Turkish bath, a tropical shower with chromotherapy, a Scottish shower, and a hydro-massage pool created in the image of an Alpine lake surrounded by rocks. In an adjoining section, the spa has an area for private massages and treatments, including the honey massage with a bath of milk and lavender flowers. The spa also has a relaxation area with herbal teas.
The bedrooms of the Hotel du Grand Paradis are available in single, twin, double and triple types, with a number of adjoining rooms available for large families. All rooms are characterised by furnishings and floors in Valdaostan wood, with curtains in the style of the Belle Epoque. The rooms each have a private bathroom, satellite TV, a safe, and free Wi-Fi internet access, present throughout the hotel. The hotel also provides an external structure, a monument house from the 1700's which hosts guests in 5 Junior Suites and an apartment; with independent access, it’s ideal for families.
The hotel’s restaurant is located in the neighbouring Hotel Sant’Orso and features wide glass windows that offer panoramic views of the meadows of Sant’Orso and the Gran Paradiso National Park. The same views can also be admired from the terrace, where lunch may be served during the summer. The gastronomic offer is à la carte (with different options for hotel guests and the general public) and includes typical Valdaostan specialities as well as a selection of national and international dishes. A children’s menu is also available. The Brasserie Cougnèntse at the hotel is also open to the public and offers more informal cuisine, based on salads, grills, pizzas, and homemade desserts. Finally, with the aid of a guide, it is possible to hike from the hotel to the mountain refuge Pian di Teppe on the natural plateau of Gimillan, at almost 2000 msl. The refuge prepares polenta, barbeques and themed evenings for hotel guests.
