Hotel Kristal ****
Located in Dolenjske Toplice, one of the most famous thermal towns in Slovenia and just a short distance from the Croatian border, not to mention it was one of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy’s favourite destinations, Hotel Kristal was completed in 1899, and has been restored numerous times since then. Boasting all the mod-cons guests need for a relaxing stay, this Hotel is also connected to the Balnea Health Farm & Spa via a glass corridor, where numerous thermal and aesthetic treatments are carried out. It is also possible to play tennis here (there are 4 tennis courts), and the restaurant is located in the neighbouring Hotel Balnea, which Hotel Kristal is connected to directly and with which it shares certain guest facilities.
Just a short walk from the Hotel, via a glass corridor, is the Balnea Health Farm & Spa. Here guests can make use of the indoor and outdoor thermal pools, which have massage points with water jets, waterfalls and geysers and various attractions for children.
The Spa zone boasts a Finnish sauna with samarium and a terrace for nudists, a Turkish bath, Japanese bath (the only one in Slovenia) herb bath and a whirlpool tub for 5 people that is filled with thermal water. There are numerous massages available, including Berber, Shiatsu, reflexology, aromatherapy, anti-cellulite, chocolate, honey and medicinal herb massages. There are also various face and body treatments available and body modelling programmes that make use of an infrared booth.
Hotel Kristal has 24 double rooms, 27 single rooms and 4 suites, all of which have satellite television with international programmes, a radio, direct telephone and a minibar.
At the neighbouring Hotel Balnea, the restaurant offers a large starters buffet and the main dish of the day served to guests’ tables. Alternatively, guests can enjoy a characteristic Slovenian dish or choose from a vegetarian or wellness menu. Furthermore, special marmalades and jams made in the area are served at breakfast.
Some of the Hotel’s services and facilities:
The area surrounding Dolenjske Toplice offers plenty of natural tourism, including routes and excursions that can be completed on foot or by bike. There is also a forest nearby, Kočevski Rog, that is famous in Slovenia for its hunting reserve and river, the Krka. Further down the river and on a small island, which is certainly worth a visit, is the ancient Otocec Castle, the only one in Slovenia surrounded by water and which is today an exclusive ‘Relais & Chateaux’ Hotel, but it is still open for visits together with its wonderful park.
