Relais Monastero di San Biagio
The Relais not only promotes physical well-being but also mental and spiritual well-being too. Offering an all-round wellness experience in which guests of the Relais Antico Monsastero are invited to stay the same way they have been since the 14th century when the Monastery in Nocera Umbra became famous as a place of healing and care under the name of San Blasis Canonical in honour of St. Biagio, a bishop and medic. Over the centuries, monks have carried the tradition of using official plants, water and clays on the body, something which is very much included in the Wellness Programme today along with preventative therapies and the maintenance of psycho physical well-being. The context really brings out the essence of Wellness here: the Monastery is reachable on foot and is set in the Mount Subasio Natural Park- the centre of a territory rich in plants and fauna, allowing guests to take relaxing walks through unspoilt nature. An organic theme runs into the cuisine too; dishes have Umbrian-Romagnola roots and are prepared with organic ingredients from the immediate, surrounding area.
The official plants from the local territory- produced and transformed in-loco according to ancient recipes- are the principal ingredients of many rituals, practiced at the Monastery. For example: Vapour Baths offer a detox experience; Spring baths, with 36° waters from Nocera Umbra, active ingredients and mother tinctures; hot and cold water jets and ablutions. Other practices include: a lavender dry foam wash; a bandage wrap treatment; massages with waters from which official plants were macerated and prepared; mud and herb poultices- applicable to various parts of the body; medicated, flour and hot-oil face packs; hay baths; a mummy bath to stabilize body heat and much more. Medical and herbal consultants are available to suggest suitable programmes, applications and meditation techniques in order to discover true wellness and relaxation.
The Relais Antico Monastero, San Biagio offers three types of rooms: Classic "Sacristan" rooms have been built into ancient, monastatic cells with wooden beams and terracotta floors just like the Superior "Prior" rooms- the majority of these offer beautiful views over the valley or of the Monastery's bell tower. Lastly, Superior "Abbot" rooms are spacious and furnished with taste and sobriety, equipped with every comfort- apart from a television, as to promote and maintain the structure's tranquil and relaxing atmosphere.
The Restaurant at the Relais Antico Monastero, San Biagio offers typical, Umbrian-Romagnola cuisine where dishes are prepared with produce from the immediate, surrounding area; in particular from local, organic, agricultural businesses.
The Relais Antico Monastero, San Biagio is situated in a green and tranquil position, only 5 kms away from a ring road connecting principle Umbrian cities- Nocera Umbra is only a 10 minute drive from here and a short journey away from other medieval towns that make the Umbrian countryside- from Bevagna to Spello, Montefalco, Gualdo Tadino and naturally, Perugia, with its splendid, medieval town centre and its five quarters. Among other attractions in the area are the Frasassi Caves- considered one of the biggest hypogeum complexes in Europe- a popular destination for lovers of speleology and nature.
