Suite Porta Terra
Porta Terra was the name of the only access point to Gallipoli old town, demolished in 1881. Overlooking the access point there is an 18th century building built in neoclassic style with one side facing the Anjou Castle and the gulf and the other facing the historic market. On the first floor of the building, careful restructuring and modernization has fitted one of the heritage buildings in Gallipoli with two rooms and a Suite for a stay in the centre, immersed in history and culture. Suite Porta Terra is found just off Corsa Roma, the main street for shopping and nightlife, a short distance from the sea and the beautiful shores of Baia Verde and some of the most beautiful Salento beaches. Suite Porta Terra is partnered with various restaurants and has wi-Fi in all areas.

South of Gallipoli, a visit to Santa Maria di Leuca is a must, on the very tip of the heel of the boot with a coast which alternates between white sandy beaches and rocky cliffs. For scuba fanatics, there are 14 caves to explore both on the Adriatic and the Ionian coasts. A little further away, but also worth visiting are Otranto and Lecce. Otranto is a historic town, with a towering Aragonese castle, The Tursi Cathedral and the Church of Saint Peter, one of the most beautiful Byzantine buildings in Apulia. Lecce, which the historian Gregorovius defined as the “Florence of the south” for its wonderful historic centre, characterized by the baroque style of the buildings, rich in monuments, churches and heritage buildings.
In northern Salento the main attractions are the Roman Columns of Brindisi, the caves of San Biagio in San Vito dei Normanni, The Dentice di Frasso castle, the historic centre of Ostuni, the Trulli in Alberobello, the Clock Tower in Noci, the dinosaur quarry in Altamura and Castel del monte. Also, worth a visit are the small villages the numerous churches, farms and villas which are studded throughout the Salento inland, where history, art and culture go hand in hand with a great tradition of hospitality.
