Terme di Sorano Residence
The Residence Terme di Sorano has 40 apartments and villas, allowing guests to stay at the spa resort and enjoy the benefits of the natural spring water in a tranquil, comfortable, and child-friendly environment. In the heart of the upper Maremma region in Tuscany, among the verdant forests, pastures, and fields of crops, the complex also contains the Pieve di Santa Maria dell’Aquila, a medieval church that has been carefully restored to preserve its historic and artistic value. The pearl of the residence is perhaps the outdoor swimming pool, fed with water from the natural springs at 37.5°C, with a separate area for children, and an additional pool for sports and exercise swimming. The residence has its own Wellness Centre with a Spa and a snack bar. There is also a function and meeting room inside the old church, which provides an impressive location for hosting shows and events.
The large outdoor swimming pool, which features two hydrotherapy waterfalls, is fed by the sodium-, magnesium-, and calcium-rich natural spring water at a temperature of 37.5°C, with an area reserved for children. In the Wellness Centre, the Spa contains a Bio-Sauna, Finnish sauna, steam bath with spring water, and a relaxation area with chromotherapy and herbal tea bar. The centre offers a range of massages and beauty treatments for the body, including mud wraps and skin peels, treatments for the face, and exclusive biotreatments.
The Terme di Sorano Residence has 40 villas and apartments in all, with 30 apartments and 10 villas situated around the old Pieve di Santa Maria dell’Aquila and the spring. All accommodation on the ground floor has a portico and a garden, while those on the first and second floors have balconies, some with a sun terrace. The apartments are either studio, one bedroom, or two bedroom, while the villas can accommodate up to 10 people. All accommodation has autonomous heating, satellite TV, and a well-equipped kitchen.
The Terme di Sorano Residence offers a breakfast buffet which is also available to enjoy in the external gardens during the summer months. In the Terme di Comano Restaurant, tasty dishes and light options prepared with respect to Maremma culinary traditions-using local products- are to be accompanied by some of the best wines from the local territory.
The hotel’s facilities and services include:
The Borgo di Sorano, where the Terme di Sorano Residence is located, is a medieval village that stands at the top of a cliff of volcanic tuff rock. The picturesque historic centre is a labyrinth of alleys, courtyards, arches, and cellars dug into the rock. Nearby places to visit include Sovrana: a small medieval town built near an Etruscan necropolis, with a beautiful historic centre, containing the Duomo, one of the most important romantic cathedrals in Tuscany; the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, in a Roman-Gothic style; and the Piazza del Pretorio. The town of Pitiglio is just 10 km from the residence: once governed by the Aldobradeschi family, like Sorano and Sovano, it has a picturesque historic centre and unique attractions such as the cellars dug out of caves and Etruscan tombs, as well as an active Jewish community in a ghetto with a Synagogue, library, cemetery, and an oven for cooking unleavened bread. A visit to the cave settlement of San Rocco is an absolute must: on a rocky outcrop that provides panoramic views across the valley of the river Lente to Sorano; the area is dotted with caves dug deep into the tuff rock, which the Etruscans used as burial sites, but were then lived in during the Middle Ages. Then there’s the ancient city of Vitozza, another cave settlement near the lake of Bolsena, the largest volcanic lake in Europe, which contains a huge variety of fish species and is an excellent location for bird-watching. Visitors interested in nature tourism can also explore the rest of the natural beauty of the Maremma Park, while those who prefer a taste of the seaside can head to the beautiful Argentario Coast. Wine lovers will recognise some famous names on the map, like Montalcino, Val d’Orcia, and Scansano, where the prestigious Morellino grape is cultivated. Vineyard tours and wine tasting is popular in the area.
