Torre a Cona Wine Estate
Torre a Cona is an historic 500 acres winery south-east of Florence, between the Chianti and Valdarno regions. The historic winery has been carefully cared for through the centuries, and now tourists from all over the world come for a relaxing holiday, a visit of the gardens and the winery, or a tasting of local wines. The first document attesting the estate dates back to 1066 ad, and what we see today is the result of various remakes, from the XII century all the way to 1750. During World War II, the estate served as the headquarters of the German army; in the summer of 1944, it was conquered by the allies, who used it as an hospital. During the war, the cellars housed and protected various works by Michelangelo and Donatello, including statues from the Chapels of the Medici family and from the Duomo of Florence; that’s why the estate escaped allied bombings. At the heart of an olive grove, amongst green wineries and protected by robust historical walls, the estate has now been carefully and tastefully restored. A spacious outdoor pool, open from May to September, the Italian gardens and hedges allow to fully enjoy the outdoors during the hotter season. Wine tastings, horseback riding, beekeeping and truffle hunting are just some of the many activities that Torre a Cona offers. The Restaurant offers guests the most genuine Tuscan cuisine, made only with local produce.
The charming rooms occupy the west wing of the estate, dating back to the XVIII century. Categories available are Classic, Romantic, Romantic Tuscan View, Lavish Tuscan View room; Junior Suite and Suites are also available. Each room is decorated with the delicate colours of the Tuscan countryside.
Located in the historical Orangerie, that originally housed the estate orange and other fruit trees during the winter, the Restaurant Osteria Torre a Cona has the traditional and warm character of all Tuscan rural restaurants. During summer, lunch and dinner are served outdoors. Open for lunch and dinner, the restaurant offers a season cuisine, deeply connected to the Tuscan tradition, choosing the best local produce and offering the most accurate pairings with Italian wines.
Torre a Cona is just a short 20-minute drive from Florence, not far away from Siena and Arezzo (40 minutes away). The famous Tuscan villages of Camaldoli, Poppi, Bibbiena and the Vallombrosa forest are also nearby.
