Fattoria Castello di Starda
Dating back to the year 1000, Borgo di Strada has been through centuries of war and disputes and a period of abandonment before 1941 when a noble family brought the farmhouse back to life. The farmhouse was then restored, maintaining the original features, transforming it into a tourist farmhouse. The Fattoria Castello di Starda is a magical and suggestive place where you can stay in comfortable well-furnished apartments, surrounded by nature and silence. From a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool to a walk through the olive groves lose yourself the oak, chestnut and vine filled woods. This place gives you the chance to relax in absolute peace while still being just a short distance form the main attractions of the area. There are 13 apartments available at the Fattoria, 8 in the village and 5 outside the village, around the pool. All rooms are fitted with all the mod cons you need for a relaxing stay and in the village, there is also a tavern where you can taste the authentic Tuscan cuisine in a renovated historic oil mill. Tasting sessions of the products made on the farm (classic Malaspina chianti, grappa, vin Santo and olive oil) are organized regularly in the structure which can also host events and ceremonies along with the use of the antique, consecrated, village church.
Of the 13 apartments available at the Fattoria Castello di Starda, 8 are spread out through the village and 5 in a few buildings around the pool. All rooms maintain their historic characteristics with stone fire places, wooden beamed roofs and terracotta floors. The apartments come in Classic, Superior and Deluxe and are all fitted with a kitchen or kitchenette. The Superior and Deluxe apartments also have a private garden with equipment for a barbeque.
Restored from an old oil mill from the farm, the Osteria del Castello di Starda has left the original structure intact, like all of the other buildings in the village. The food is based on the local Tuscan cuisine: with specialities including Peposo, spezzatino with beef, pepper and Chianti wine, as well as ribollita, pici, saussages, beans, Florentine tripe, lampredotto alla pistoiese, baccalà alla livornese and many more.
