Hotel Helvetia Thermal SPA ****S
Over the course of a century this hotel has learnt how to change and renew itself whilst staying true to its welcoming, courtesy and professionalism principles and evolving over time thanks to new innovations, restoration and technology. These days the hotel offers guests special facilities such as a thermae spa, congress centre, a sophisticated dining menu, a wonderful solarium and the latest generation technology, such as free Wi-Fi, while still staying true to traditions, such as having a games room which is dedicated to playing cards. From 1904, the year in which this hotel first opened in Porretta Terme , to 2006, when it was completely restored and became a superior 4 star hotel, Hotel Helvetia Thermal Spa has evolved, welcoming its guests with experience and kindness at all times, and it is more than ready to continue to grow and accompany its guests through each future transformation.
The spa (allowed over 14 years) was constructed inside a natural grotto and the healthy thermal waters of Porretta flow through it. There are five main areas in the spa: the humid area, with a salsobromoiodic thermal water swimming pool with hydromassage points and a waterfall for neck massages, thermal vascular circuits, an aromatised hammam, sauna and biosauna; the dry area, which was designed for medical and aesthetic face and body treatments, cosmetics, massages and all types of beauty treatments; the relaxation area, which is made up of water beds and a tea area; the medical research area, present because these waters really do have healing and health properties; and, lastly, the fitness centre which has technogym equipment and qualified instructors. One of the most beautiful corners of the spa is where the thermal swimming pool is located, which was built into the hill behind the hotel. What is more, the large glass wall panels and the stone flooring here truly help to create a sense of complete fusion with nature. The biosauna, Finnish sauna, hammam, multi-sensory showers and relaxation area are all located in the natural grotto, which was once used as a refuge during WWII.
The hotel has three types of rooms (Classic, Superior and Deluxe) all of which are furnished with taste and elegance to provide maximum comfort. All of the rooms at the hotel have a LCD television, air conditioning, a mini bar, telephone, safe box and hairdryer.
The restaurant’s kitchen is all about the tradition and strong and wholesome flavours of the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano cuisine, one of the most interesting places for gastronomy in the whole country thanks to the large number of local ingredients and specialities and simple yet creative recipes. The menu ranges from Chianina beef and many types of cured meats and cheeses from the area to fresh porcini mushrooms, truffles, tuna, bream and tortellacci and tagliatelle pasta.
